About the Creator
Chicken Shack News was founded by Elliot Forsyth, a South African journalist with over a decade of experience covering African affairs. Growing up in Cape Town, Elliot witnessed how misinformation could divide communities—and how reliable reporting could bring people together. He started this platform out of a simple belief: that Africans deserve news that’s as thoughtful and nuanced as their stories.
Why This Website Exists
Too often, African stories are filtered through foreign lenses or reduced to stereotypes. Chicken Shack News was born to change that. We’re not a foreign bureau. We’re not an echo chamber. We’re a homegrown voice, rooted in South Africa but focused on the entire continent—written by Africans, for Africans and the world that wants to understand us.
Our Values
Our work is guided by three principles:
- Accuracy: We verify every fact before publication
- Independence: We answer to our readers, not to advertisers or political agendas
- Empathy: We tell stories with dignity, never reducing people to headlines
We don’t chase clicks. We chase truth.
